Easy walk harness - a guide from Behaviorist's mother how to teach a dog to walk on a loose leash

In this article you will learn how to train your dog to unlearn him hauling while walking in easy walk harness.

This training will help your dog understand what you expect from him. A well-done exercise each time will make you one step away from leisurely walks with your hand in its place. Now she will have a chance to stay in the shoulder longer;)

Behaviorist mom presents one of her favorite exercises in learning to walk on a loose leash:

An exercise with a big reward at the end

Set in a certain place a bowl of dog treats and walk away a dozen paces. Mark the place of the beginning (we often choose a specific flower or a hole in the sidewalk with the caretakers;)) or just leave the backpack. We start the exercise - we move towards the treats, constantly controlling the arrangement of the leash. If the dog starts to pull we go back to the starting point and we start the exercise from the beginning. As soon as your dog manages to walk all the way on a loose leash, he will receive a large reward left in the bowl. Remember that in when approaching the award say "please, you can eat" or another slogan like "you have" or "ok, eat" so that the dog does not learn to eat the food left on the grass.

Other awards

Instead of eating, we can use a different reward at the end of the route. It could be:

  • favorite toy a dog, e.g. a jerk, which you can play dragging together,

  • second guardianwho will be waiting for the dog to pet him, give him something delicious or suggest some fun.

  • clearing in the parkon which the dog is unleashed. The principle is similar: a dog for a calm approach to a given place can run, sniff and go crazy.

  • favorite canine companion for games - you can use them together as a reward for reaching him on a loose leash.

The point is that the prize should be mega-big, like an annual bonus;)
