Holidays with a dog - remember about it!

You wonder how to plan the perfect vacation with your dog so that you can share the happiness of a successful vacation with your four-legged friend. We will not hide that traveling with a pet requires a careful plan and compliance with a few rules. Before leaving, it is worth considering the key issues and preparing everything so that the joint stay will be carefree and bring a lot of joy to both parties.

Holidays with a dog

Holidays with a dog? Book a pet-friendly property!

Choosing the right place to stay for a vacation with a dog in a planned vacation destination should not be accidental. In addition to the objective climatic and natural factors, the key question is: are tourists with dogs admitted in the chosen place of rest? Typically, this type of information appears on the property's website. In addition, if you want to know all the nuances of your four-legged friend's stay, you can contact us by phone or e-mail. It is worth checking above all: is it possible to leave the dog in the room and can the animal run around the fenced area?

These are very important issues because, unlike most caregivers who are ready to spend the whole day in the sun in the hope of having a beautiful tan, four-legged pets usually do not tolerate intense ultraviolet radiation. This applies especially to dogs of ornamental breeds and those that nature has provided with a dark, dense cover. Therefore, when going on vacation with your dog, think about where your pet will wait for the hottest hours. The best option are houses with a fenced and at least partially shaded area where the dog can run and rest. When planning to leave your dog in a hotel, guest house or holiday resort, it is advisable to choose an air-conditioned room (especially in hot weather) or to provide a special (cooling) rug to help alleviate the tiring feeling of heat.

When traveling, remember about safety, comfort and regulations!

When preparing for a vacation with your dog, take into account that not all pets can travel well. While traveling by own car is usually not problematic, traveling by public means can cause anxiety and stress in your pet. Especially in an airplane, a four-legged friend may be exposed to stressful stimuli. Most airlines provide the option of transporting a dog on board the plane in a special carrier or in the hold. Before booking a flight, it is worth getting acquainted with the regulations specified by a given carrier, as well as with the rules governing the import and export of animals in the destination country and transit countries. This information is also necessary when traveling abroad by other means of transport. So that holidays with a dog do not turn into a series of unforeseen difficulties, it is best to use the information available on the website of the Chief Veterinary Inspectorate in the tab "Traveling with companion animals - rules".

In general, the dog must have:

  • special passport, issued by an authorized veterinarian, with a rabies vaccination (issued no later than one year before departure)
  • a certificate from a veterinarian about the dog's health condition (issued up to 48 hours before departure)
  • microchip
  • the current vaccination booklet.

When traveling by your own means of transport, remember about important rules:

  • Protect your four-legged friend, take care of his safety and comfort, and comply with the regulations regarding the transport of animals. Be responsible! Small and medium-sized dogs can be secured with special belts or transported in functional, securely fastened transporters on the rear seat. Larger dogs can be transported in a car cage in the trunk, where the trunk space is connected to the cabin.
  • Don't let your dog stick his head out of the window so that the rush of air irritates his eyes and ears.
  • Take breaks every 2-3 hours so that your pet can take care of its physiological needs and straighten its paws.

And the most important: on sunny days, do not leave your pet in a locked car under any circumstances, it may suffer from heat stroke!

Holidays with a dog - take care of a successful, positive and comfortable rest!

The journey itself, and then the arrival to a new place, can cause various ailments for your pet. Like humans, dogs can suffer from climate change, changes in environment, water, and food. So it is important for your pet to feel that, despite this variety, it can still feel good and safe with you. Therefore, at least in the first days, it is best to give the person the food he or she has eaten so far. It is also worth taking his favorite things for a joint vacation with your dog - toys, bones, a bowl, a blanket, a bed or a pillow, selected snacks, familiar treats. All these little things will create a homely atmosphere and at the same time reduce the feeling of anxiety. Also, do not be afraid to show him greater tenderness and full interest.

After checking in, find out where you can walk your dog on the property. Also, find out where you can walk with animals outside of it. And although you shouldn't think about bad circumstances when vacationing with your dog, it is worth checking where the nearest veterinary clinic is located and knowing its opening hours. After all, if the unexpected happens, it's good to know where to go for help. Then take your pet for a walk around the area, let him orientate himself in the new space, get to know different, exciting smells.

Good to know!

In order for your pet to endure the road safely and comfortably, without causing any trouble to you or your travel companions, we recommend that you limit the portions of food on the day before departure, and do not serve any food a few hours before departure. You can also give your pet a mild sedative after consulting your vet (30 minutes before departure).

Frequent bathing in the sea (apart from the undoubted recreational benefits) harms the pet's skin. It's about salt that dries out and damages the top layer of the epidermis. Therefore, after bathing, after returning to the facility, be sure to wash your pet under running water, rinsing its hair thoroughly.

Many keepers do not even suspect that the recreational infrastructure for pets has developed no less intensively in recent years than for people. Every year there are more and more cafes, restaurants, special catwalks, amusement parks and even dog spas. Sometimes it is worth finding out if there is something similar in the town where you are going on holiday with your dog.
