How can I stop my dog from barking at home?
If when no one is home, the dog barks, most likely the cause is boredom and loneliness. A good solution is to gradually familiarize your four-legged friend with this situation and introduce a routine daily schedule (repeat classes). Carrying out daily activities at a similar time gives the dog a greater sense of security and after some time begins to calmly wait for the handler to return. We also need to ensure that our "lonely" pet has something to do, all kinds of new, intriguing toys and hidden treats may turn out to be useful. Finding hidden snacks is both exercise and a great way to reduce boredom.
How to teach a dog to bark with commands?
Self-training of the dog at home requires patience and consistency. Changing problematic behaviors is time-consuming, and the consolidation of the new attitude requires multiple repetitions. Regular training should take place every day, for 10-15 minutes. In order for your pet to learn the command relatively quickly, it is better to start learning before a meal. Then we are sure that he will be more likely to be tempted by the delicacy we offer.
Paradoxically, we start training with learning barking on command. With the help of a household member or another person, we simulate a situation to which the dog usually responds with barking, e.g. a doorbell. When our pet starts barking, we approach him and give a command "vote ”or“ give a floor ”. If the dog is still barking, we give him a reward. In this method, the most important thing is to feel when your four-legged friend should be rewarded. The second way is to distract your pet from a sensitive situation. If the dog starts barking, we show him a treat, favorite or new toy, leash and reinforce the message with the command "no". We reward him each time he draws attention to us. After a few exercises, we give the dog a reward only when it responds correctly to the command, i.e. stops barking.
We can also use the third method, which is to learn the command "to place". This command means that the pet is to go to its bed on the command. Lead the dog on a leash towards the lair and stop in front of him. Later, we put a treat on the bedding (we can also put it earlier), loosen the leash and say the command "in place". The dog tempted by the delicacy will probably run to the lair right away. We repeat this exercise several times. After a few days, we start learning from the command "to the place", but we do not leave the delicacy in the lair. When the pet approaches the lair, we praise it and reward it with a delicacy.
