How to safely transport a dog by car? Necessary accessories

How to safely transport a dog in a car? Which accessories to choose?

A weekend trip outside the city, a foreign holiday with a dog, a visit to the in-laws, a visit to the vet - if we have a car at our disposal, there will be plenty of opportunities to ride with a dog. Many people transport their dog in the car completely "loose" - on the lap, on the back seat, on the front seat or in the trunk. Meanwhile, there are real reasons why we should change the way we drive a dog.

Transporting a dog in a car - law, regulations, fines

Although the sight of a selfie with a dog on your lap while driving a car or a head protruding far beyond the car can be amused or emotional, we should not do it. For improper transport of a pet, we can receive a fine of up to PLN 200. Although the provisions of the road traffic law do not provide detailed guidelines on how to secure your pet while driving, it is our duty to ensure the safety of ourselves and other road users. I personally know a person who received a fine in the highest amount provided for transporting a medium dog on the back seat of a car without protection, so fines for the lack of dog belts are not an urban legend.

- Even if a telephone lying loose can kill us during sudden braking, let alone a dog weighing 15 kg! At a speed of 50 km / h, it will hit with a weight of approx. 450 kg - the effect is predictable - explains Paulina Grzybowska from the blog bialyjack.pl.

When traveling by car with an animal, we should take care of three basic elements. The dog should be safe, not pose a threat and not disturb while driving, and have access to fresh air.

Necessary accessories for driving a car with a dog

In order to avoid fines and ensure safe passage of our entire interspecies family rushing on vacation, it is enough to equip the dog with a harness and a belt for the time of the journey. It is very important not to use car belts in conjunction with a collar. In the event of a collision, this connection could result in serious injury or even death.

How to choose a dog car belt?

In order to properly secure the dog while driving and avoid a ticket, it is enough to fasten it with a car belt. This will help to avoid our pet's playful jumps around the car and moving around the car without being controlled.

The photo shows the belts, 2,5 cm wide, adjustable, for transporting a dog by car.

The seat belt consists of four elements: a piece of strong tape with a tight weave, a carabiner, a buckle for the socket and an adjuster.

In our offer you will find colorful car belts in two widths:

  • 2 cm wide - has a smaller snap hook, designed for small and medium-sized dogs
  • 2,5 cm wide - has a larger carabiner, designed for large dogs

Choose a narrower (2 cm) car belt if your dog weighs less than 17 kg, and a wider one (2,5 cm) if it weighs more than 17 kg.

If we care about the safety of the dog, it is worth knowing the strength of the belt before using it. If the manufacturer used low-quality elements and sewed the whole thing with cotton threads, the strength of the belt in the event of a collision may prove to be insufficient. Meanwhile, as one of the few Polish companies, we have acquired strength certificate for car seat belts. Thanks to this, you know what load the product can withstand.

What car harness for a dog?

Always transport your dog in a car let's use a harness, the collar is excluded. We offer three harness models - standard guard harness, Norwegian harness and easy walk harness. The latter are not suitable for attaching with a belt due to the lack of a metal ring attached to the back. These are training harnesses with the fastening at the front of the harness. For this reason, they should not be used if we want to transport the dog comfortably and safely.

A chimney-type dog scarf - what is it? A scarf, also known as a bandana or bandana for a dog, is a textile gadget that we put on the neck.
